The pieces of music listed on this page are a few of Anthony Hodson's compositions and arrangements over a period of time, for a variety of resources and instruments.

Songs

Heraclitus

"Heraclitus" is a lament: a setting for baritone (or mezzosoprano) of the famous poem by William Cory, which is in turn a translation of the poem by Callimachus in the 4th century B.C. Sorrow doesn't change.

The Cedar

"The Cedar" is a song based on a short poem by Margie Stafford, about a cedar tree that struggles to grow out of a shale cliff, up to the birch-tree canopy. The cliff and the cedar are real, and can be seen in the Sunnywood shore-line of Lake Champlain in north New York State, USA.

Spring Lanes Suite

The "Spring Lanes Suite" is a set of six pieces that were originally written for the composer's children when they were young. The last piece in the suite was written more recently

Works for small ensembles

Three short pieces for horn and bassoon (or euphonium)

These pieces were played at the Woodley Festival in March 1986, and in 2003 at St Pauls Girls' School.

The following pieces were written or arranged for a family quartet of two horns and two bassoons.

"Rejoice..." is a Christmas carol, to words by H V (Harry) Hodson, the composer's father, presented as SATB.
